John Legend joins The Roots for a powerful performance of his new single, "Preach", in the latest episode of The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon Friday, February 22.
Before going on stage, he talked about the single and the events that inspired him with Fallon.
"The message is, you know, a lot of times we have those crazy tragedies happening in America, like the Parkland shooting, and [going] "I give my thoughts and prayers to that," he said. "But often we lack action, we do not really do anything, this song is about it."
He then sat at the piano to sing through the song, with The Roots and a trio with the heavenly voice of alternate singers further emphasizing its intensity. The legend eventually caught the microphone and went to the audience to continue communicating with them and to the moving message of the song.
