In an affidavit filed in federal court, a U.S. Capitol Police special agent said the man, John Lolos, was identified by a Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority police officer after Lolos was kicked off a Delta flight on the afternoon of Jan. 8 to Ronald Reagan Washington. The police officer, identified only as Constable Braddock, saw Lolos being escorted off the flight, according to the affidavit.
“Agent Braddock was alerted to LOLOS activity and saw him return to the boarding gate from the plane, but did not stop or stop LOLOS when he returned to the gate,” indicates the affidavit. “Delta booked LOLOS a later flight to their destination, and LOLOS continued to wait at the gate.”
About 45 minutes later, Braddock was scrolling through his Instagram feed when he saw a video showing rioters inside the Capitol building, the affidavit states. The video showed a man coming out of a door to the Capitol, and Braddock identified him as the same man he saw being kicked off the flight, the officer said.
During the video, LOLOS can be seen walking out of the door of the U.S. Capitol, wearing the same shirt he wore at (at) the airport, and waiving a red ‘Trump 2020 Keep American Great’ flag hanging from the American flag, yelling ‘we made it, yeah!’ “the agent wrote. Upon arrest, the officer found the flags seen in the video among Lolos’ possessions, according to the affidavit.
Braddock informed officers from the Capitol Police’s Dignity Protection Division – who were already at the airport on other assignments – of Lolos. They then approached Lolos, according to the affidavit, and “informed LOLOS that he was detained and that he was not free to leave at that time.”
The Special Constable of the United States Capitol Police then placed him under arrest, according to the affidavit.
Lolos has since been charged with knowingly entering or staying in a restricted building without legal authorization, violent entry and disorderly conduct on the Capitol grounds on January 6.
A lawyer for Lolos was not in federal court records and CNN was unable to contact Lolos for comment. CNN has also reached out to Delta for comment, but has yet to receive a response.
