John Mulaney writes for Late Night with Seth Meyers – / Film

It’s always nice when a promising, talented comedian has the opportunity to really break into the industry. And that’s exactly what happens with the young buck John Ugay. The stand-up comedian goes straight from his first communion to writing Late Night with Seth Meyers, which leaves him much less time to see if Addams Family Values is available on Blockbuster Video.

Late Night with Seth Meyers Showrunner Mike Shoemaker broke the news on Twitter:

John Mulaney enjoys working so this week he officially joined Late Night with @SethMeyers as a staff writer. I hope he will stay 100 years, but I’ll settle for “as long as John wants”.

Mulaney officially joined the staff this week. It might seem like a step forward for such a high-profile comedian, but there aren’t really many standing shows, so Mulaney is clearly looking to stay alert by joining a writers’ room with her friends. He joins actors such as Amber Ruffin, John lutz, Sal Gentile, Karen chee and Jenny Hagel, as well as editor-in-chief Alex Baze. Shoemaker is a producer and writer, and he previously worked Saturday Night Live, as good as Tonight’s show with the old one SNL actor Jimmy Fallon. These guys are a tight-knit group.

Not only did Mulaney join the staff, but he also appeared on the series with a bit where he theorized about the place ghosts had in the 2020 presidential election, especially the late Sen. John Lewis and Senator John McCain. This is the track Shoemaker refers to above, where Mulaney wears the trench coat given to her by Strokes lead singer Julian Casablancas after the recent episode of Saturday Night Live they appeared together.

As a writer, Mulaney already has a long history with Seth Meyers. Both were at Saturday Night Live together, and Meyers is famous for SNL the character Stefon, which Mulaney co-created with Bill Hader. In fact, when Hader left SNL, Meyers and Stefon got married. Mulaney and Meyers therefore have a close friendship and a great dynamic of collaboration.

Speaking of marriage, there’s a long, hilarious interview between Mulaney and Meyers that didn’t air on NBC, but ended up online as a digital exclusive. When Mulaney appeared on the following show Saturday Night Live, the comedian asked Meyers a lot of “hard-hitting questions”, including some about Colin Jost and Scarlett Johansson’s marriage. Mike Shoemaker immediately knew this wouldn’t happen on TV, but luckily we can still enjoy it all:

Personally, I hope that any appearance of John Mulaney Late Night with Seth Meyers from now on present it in this jacket and these sunglasses. He looks like Lloyd Dobler from Say anything, but somehow even younger.
