Johnny Depp claims he falls victim to culture annulment amid $ 50million libel lawsuit

Johnny Depp has claimed he has become a victim of culture cancellation as he prepares to accept the prestigious Donostia Award at the San Sebastian Film Festival.

Johnny made the comments as he prepared to take the stage and accept his award in recognition of his acclaimed acting work, with the Pirates of the Caribbean star in high spirits as he arrived at a photocall for the event.

Before taking the stage to accept his award, Johnny shared his thoughts on canceling culture and called on people to “stand up” for those facing “injustice”.

Speaking at a press conference, as Deadline reported, he said: “It can be seen as an event in history that has lasted as long as it has lasted, this culture of cancellation , this instant rush to judgment based on what essentially amounts to polluted air.

“It’s so out of control now that I can promise you no one is safe. None of you. No one at this door. No one is safe. ‘

“It takes a sentence and there is no more ground, the carpet has been drawn. It didn’t just happen to me, it happened to a lot of people. This kind of thing has happened to women, to men.

The publication reports that Johnny was happy to answer questions about the recent state of his career, in the midst of his ongoing lawsuit against his ex-wife Amber.

However, it was claimed the actor was unable to respond to criticism leveled at the festival for awarding him such an award, with organizers insisting he would only speak about his career.

Johnny later added that he was “worried” that his presence at the festival “offended people”, and insisted he “didn’t want to offend anyone.”

Despite the mixed reception when he arrived at the festival, Johnny was in good spirits as he made his way to the photocall before accepting the award.

It comes after Depp was cleared by a court to file a $ 50 million libel action against Amber Heard.

In August, a Virginia judge ruled he could continue with the litigation, based on a 2018 Washington Post editorial she wrote saying she was a domestic violence survivor.

She didn’t mention Depp in the story, although she publicly accused him of abusing her during their separation in 2016.

The actor is trying to clear his name after losing a libel lawsuit against The Sun after the newspaper called him a “woman beater” amid allegations of domestic violence.

His lawsuit, filed in Fairfax County, Virginia, accuses Heard of creating a “hoax” account; Heard had asked that the libel suit against her, filed in March 2019, be dismissed, saying the ruling in the UK case should tip the scales in her favor, as they both concern allegations of domestic violence against Johnny .

But Judge Penny Azcarate ruled that the statements made by The Sun and Amber were “inherently different.”

The ruling read, “The Sun’s interests were based on whether the statements published by the newspaper were false.

‘[Heard’s] the interest centers on whether the statements she published were false.

The ruling also noted that Depp had filed a libel suit against The Sun before the publication of Heard’s editorial – and that she had not been named in the case against the UK newspaper.

In the December 2018 editorial, the actress wrote: “I have become a public figure representing domestic violence and have felt the full force of our culture’s anger for women speaking out.”

The UK High Court ruled against Depp following an explosive three-week trial last July, ruling that the allegations that the actor was a “female drummer” were “essentially true”.

Lawyers for the Pirates of the Caribbean star had asked two judges at the Court of Appeals for leave to challenge the decision, with the aim of overturning his findings and ordering a second trial.

They claimed that the judge in Depp’s first defamation trial had not “factually” considered all the allegations of violence against him and that they had “new evidence” that Amber had “lied” by giving him the ‘entire $ 7 million divorce settlement to charity.

They said the charity request influenced how his testimony was viewed, but the Court of Appeal ruled it had no impact on the judge and he would have come to the same conclusion on Heard being a victim of domestic violence.
