Johnny Manziel said Friday that he "was going through some things," but added that he was lucky to be part of a team like the Express that supports him.

Memphis Express quarterback Johnny Manziel jogged on the field at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium in the second quarter of Sunday's win over Birmingham Iron.

Manziel marched Memphis on the ground, but the drive stalled in the red zone. The Express failed to score on the goals board, as the striker on a 34-yard Austin MacGinnis placement scored hard on the right post with 1:56 left in the second quarter.

Manziel finished his first training with the Express 1-of-2 for 36 yards in the air and has racked up two runs for 20 yards.

The former Heisman winner and first-round pick of the NFL has taken his revenge on Memphis' fifth training. Brandon Silvers, who started the game, had 13 of 18 points, 129 yards before Manziel was registered. The Express led 16-8.

Shortly before, a crowd of Express fans broke into a loud song "We want Joh-nny!". The same call – albeit a little less hearty this time – was launched by a different amateur segment at the beginning of the second quarter. By the time Manziel took his first AAF shot, the vocals were audible no less than five times.

Before starting the game, Manziel spent a lot of time talking to the quarterback coach and offensive co-coordinator David Lee, co-offensive coordinator Bobby Blizzard and the third-string quarterback. Christian Hackenberg.
