Derek Carr’s ankle injury didn’t stop him from securing Sunday’s win over the Steelers, but it left his availability for the Raiders’ Week 3 game against the Dolphins in doubt. Carr, who injured his ankle in the second half on Sunday, finished the game with a 382-yard throw in the Raiders’ 26-17 win in Pittsburgh.

Raiders coach Jon Gruden called Carr dubious for Sunday’s game against Miami. He said running back Josh Jacobs was “very questionable” for Sunday’s game. Jacobs was inactive for last weekend’s game against the Steelers with toe and ankle injuries. Jacobs ran for 34 yards and two touchdowns in 10 carries in the Raiders’ Week 1 win over the Ravens.

Although he called Carr dubious, Gruden is optimistic that his starting quarterback will be the focus of Sunday’s game.

“I think he will be able to play”, Gruden said, via ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Carr’s 2021 season is off to a sensational start. The triple Pro Bowler has thrown for 817 yards so far, the most in franchise history in a two-game span. He also threw four touchdowns against a single interception while helping the Raiders get off to a 2-0 start.

Carr was first injured after throwing a 9-yard touchdown pass to tight end Foster Moreau. After being on the ground for several moments, Carr left the field on her own. Later in halftime, his 61-yard touchdown pass to Henry Ruggs III sealed the Raiders’ first victory in Pittsburgh since 2009.

“I’m going to let his performance speak for itself,” Gruden said of Carr after Sunday’s win, via The Athletic’s Tashan Reed. “I’ve been calling for Derek Carr since I’ve been here. I hope he will be recognized for what he did today. He had long drives. He was great again at the end of the game against two excellent ones. defenses two weeks in a row and that’s a big reason we were able to win. “

With Marcus Mariota on the injured list, Nathan Peterman would be in contention to start in case Carr is unable to play. Kenyans Drake and Peyton Barber will continue to handle the workload if Jacobs continues to run out of time with his injuries. Barber led the Raiders with 32 yards on 13 carries on Sunday. Drake caught five of his six targets for 46 yards. He caught his five targets for 59 yards in the Raiders’ Week 1 win over the Ravens.

The Dolphins are also struggling with injury issues at the quarterback. Miami coach Brian Flores called Tua Tagovailoa a daily after the second-year quarterback suffered a rib injury in the 35-0 loss to the Bills on Sunday.
