After a long offseason of talk about the pandemic, the NFL season could not officially return until media pundits started talking about Derek Carr’s status with the Raiders again.
It’s been just over five months since the ‘Brady to the Raiders’ rumors were crushed and on Monday, NFL Network’s Mike Silver essentially kicked off the new year of football by offering his understanding of Carr’s support within the organization. Raiders. According to Silver, Carr remains in great shape with the footballing spirits in the Raiders building, and more specifically with head coach Jon Gruden.
“Actually, Derek Carr has a very firm grip on this position, at least for this season,” Silver said in a Monday appearance in the NFLN. “I understand in this building that Jon Gruden is more loyal to Derek Carr than the people in the owner’s lodge.”
Gruden and general manager Mike Mayock were light-hearted when they approached Brady’s rumors over the winter, but there’s good reason to believe the Raiders have never been in the game seriously. mix for Brady. Some (or even most) of the Brady rumors were from Camp Brady – and for obvious reasons. In fact, Gruden seems to be much more attached to Carr than most seem to think.
But the “owner’s box” is a new twist… at least in public circles.
Whether that’s true or not, Carr is about to enter his seventh season as the Raiders starting quarterback and just about every report around him and the offense has been encouraging so far.
On that note, isn’t it interesting how the narrative around Carr changes every few months?
The same voices (yes, media voices) that tend to blame Carr for the Raiders’ loss of the December record still appear to be critical of his supporting cast in August. It happens every year. This year, however, the Raiders finally have a supply of offensive playmakers and Carr is entering his third year in the Gruden offense. For once, the stars seem to align like they were meant to.
And Mark Davis should be very happy about it.
