Jonah Hill opened up about his journey to self-love in an Instagram post as he applauded a tabloid for sharing photos of him surfing.

Hill shared a screenshot he picked up from the Daily Mail on Friday, which highlighted a recent visit to the beach with an article headline that called Hill’s “black jumpsuit” and “going shirtless to wipe off “in Malibu.

The 37-year-old actor wrote a detailed caption in response to the article which revealed he would not be removing his shirt at the beach or pool due to body image issues.

“I don’t think I ever took my swimsuit off in a pool until I was in my 30s, even in front of my family and friends,” Hill told his 2.3 million followers. “It probably would have happened sooner if my childhood insecurities hadn’t been exacerbated by years of public mockery on my body by the press and interviewers.”

“So the idea that the media is trying to play me by stalking me while surfing and printing photos like this and that it can’t phas me in anymore is drugs,” he continued, although the article does not directly comment on its appearance.

However, the “Superbad” star noted that at his current age, he finally loves and accepts himself.

“It’s not a ‘good for me’ message. And it certainly isn’t a ‘feel bad for me’ message,” Hill continued. “It’s for kids who don’t take their shirts off at the pool.”
