Minnesota Timberwolves star Karl-Anthony Towns announced Friday that he tested positive for coronavirus on Instagram.
The NBA player, 25, was particularly taken aback by his diagnosis when his mother, Jacqueline Cruz-Towns, 59, died of complications from COVID-19 on April 13.
“Before tonight’s game, I got another horrible call that I tested positive for COVID,” Towns wrote.
“I will immediately isolate and follow each protocol. I pray every day that this nightmare of a virus is gone and I urge everyone to continue to take it seriously by taking all necessary precautions.

He continued, “ It breaks my heart that my family, and especially my father and sister, continue to suffer from the anxiety that accompanies this diagnosis because we know only too well what the end result could be. ”
Speaking directly to his niece and nephew, the athlete promised he would ‘not end up in a box next to grandma ”and“ beat that ”.

His announcement came shortly after the NBA announced that Friday’s game between the visiting Timberwolves and the visiting Memphis Grizzlies had been postponed due to the league’s COVID-19 health and safety protocols.
Last month, during an interview with ESPN about the upcoming NBA season, Towns said he has seen “ a lot of coffins in the past seven months. ”
“I’ve been through a lot, obviously starting with my mom,” Towns said. “Last night I got a call saying I lost my uncle. I feel like I’ve been a little hardened by life and humiliated.

He did not say which other members of his family had died.
The NBA star said he is still trying to process his mother’s death as he seeks to protect the rest of his family from the ongoing pandemic.
His father, Karl Sr., also tested positive for the coronavirus earlier in the year, but has recovered.

“ I have a lot of people who – in my family and my mother’s family – have contracted COVID. I’m always looking for answers, trying to figure out how to keep them healthy.
“It’s just a big responsibility for me to keep my family well informed and to take whatever steps are necessary to keep them alive,” he added.
Towns’ mother, Jacqueline Cruz-Towns, died on April 13 at the age of 58 after being placed on a ventilator for 19 days.

Weeks earlier, he had shared an emotional Instagram post on March 25 in which he wrote that she was on a ventilator and in a medically induced coma from COVID-19.
“We need more equipment and we need to help the medical staff on the front lines,” he wrote with the video.
He continued, “Thank you to the medical staff who help my mother. You are all true heroes! Pray for all of us during this difficult time.
Towns subsequently donated $ 100,000 to the Mayo Clinic to help test patients for COVID-19.
Towns is pictured with his family in 2016. He said on Friday he has worked to protect them from the pandemic since his mother’s death, pictured left, in April.
Towns later confirmed her death with a touching video showing her by his side at games, press conferences, and television appearances.
His mother had been a constant presence through all the great moments of his career and was often highlighted by fans for her enthusiasm in supporting her son in the crowd.
The basketball star said he felt compelled to share his mother’s story, detailing how he cared for her on social media, so others better understand the impact of the pandemic.

Woods was previously linked to Tristan Thompson, after she was spotted fucking an NBA player in the early hours of the morning at his Los Angeles home in January 2019.
At the time, Thompson was dating the KUWTK star and baby mom Khloé Kardashian, who has since reconciled. The couple are focused on raising their two-year-old daughter True.
The situation led Woods to fall out with the famous family, including the end of his longtime friendship with 23-year-old Kylie Jenner.
