The Blues boss explained what he expects from his team ahead of a London derby on Thursday night
Thomas Tuchel has responded to Jose Mourinho’s comments that PSG’s post “cannot be compared” to that of the Premier League ahead of Chelsea’s trip to Tottenham on Thursday night.
Mourinho appeared to play in the perception that training in the Premier League will be more difficult than in France with recent comments addressed to the new Chelsea boss.
As he takes charge of his first London derby, Tuchel will also face Mourinho for the first time as a manager and he has responded to comments made by his counterpart.
“You can’t compare. I absolutely agree. It’s totally different. It’s a totally different culture. It’s a different attitude. It’s a different way of playing, ”Tuchel told reporters. “I want to underline it very clearly: for me there is no better or worse – it is [just] very, very different.
“Jose is right, it’s a big difference. It’s not a question of what’s better or what’s worse, it’s just if it’s okay with me and at the moment it’s fine with me. I feel absolutely comfortable.
Tuchel’s game at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will be his third club manager following the sacking of Frank Lampard last week.
It will be against the only man to be sacked twice by Roman Abramovich, the billionaire owner of Chelsea, famous for being ruthless to his managers. Still, Mourinho is widely regarded as a success at Chelsea, having won three Premier League titles in two periods.
Tuchel was asked how he was going to manage the desire for quick results with long term performance in his approach in West London.
“I think for that we need a good relationship between the players and me so that we can always talk about the performance,” he said. “We hope the results will follow. They don’t follow in football all the time.
“It’s the most difficult thing to control for a coach who wants to control everything and for a coach who wants to plan everything, but in football you have to accept that you cannot control the result. In the Premier League, you can’t control the outcome. It’s impossible.
“What is performance? It is: “What does the manager expect of me, why does he expect it of me and what does the team expect of me as a player when I play, and how should we play together as a group “. It’s like an orchestra; we have to follow a certain rhythm, a certain discipline and a certain style.
“If you ask me if I would rather win lucky, or lose undeserved, I of course go for a lucky win because it’s easier to improve. But we are here to perform at a level that allows us to increase the chances of winning because in football we cannot do more.
