The Eagles' decision to hire quarterback Josh McCown to sign a contract to replace Carson Wentz this season has an impact on several other players on the team.
Nate Sudfeld, Cody Kessler and Clayton Thorson were Wentz reinforcements on the depth map until Sudfeld's broken wrist and Kessler's concussion opened the door for another addition. Sudfeld was supposed to be No. 2 quarterback, but will likely be in the regular season and said Monday that he was all for adding a "phenomenal guy" like McCown.
"I am very confident in my abilities and I have the impression that they have a lot of self-confidence," said Sudfeld, via Philly.com. "I understand the signature, especially with the injury I suffered. We are just a very good team and I think Josh is doing a great job. "
If the arrival of McCown means another year as a quarterback for Sudfeld, it probably also means that Kessler will be totally excluded from the list. Kessler admitted that it was "hard not to" question his future, but that he was trying to focus on the game now that he had made progress in the protocol on concussions.
