Fans of Joss Whedon will have to wait until he returns to TV: Buffy the vampire slayer creator has left the upcoming HBO sci-fi series Nevers, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
“We have parted ways with Joss Whedon,” HBO confirmed in a statement. “We remain excited about the future of Nevers and look forward to its premiere in summer 2021. “
Whedon – known for creating cult favorites like Buffy, Firefly and Doll house – also released a statement to CinemaBlend, which first told the story: “This year of unprecedented challenges has impacted my life and outlook in ways I never could have imagined, and during development and production Nevers has been a joyful experience, I realize that the level of commitment required to move forward, combined with the physical challenges of putting on such a huge show during a global pandemic, is more than I can handle without work begins to suffer. I am truly exhausted and am returning to martializing my energy towards my own life, which is also on the verge of an exciting change. Whedon was set to write, direct and produce the drama, which earned a direct commission for the series from HBO in July 2018, and also serve as a showrunner.
