A A local journalist in South Carolina said Democratic voters believed that former Vice President Joe Biden's decision to travel to Palmetto State was "awesome", even as every candidate in the presidential election went there at the beginning of each electoral campaign.

"And simply, [voters] Jenna Cisnero of WIS10 said on Saturday: "People in the line say they want to see him visit more rural communities and get in touch with these voters," said Jenna Cisnero of WIS10.

South Carolina will be the fourth state to vote in the Democratic primaries, going to the polls on February 29, 2020 after Iowa on February 3, New Hampshire on February 11, and Nevada on February 22. As the first state with a large black population, it will be a crucial test of who appeals to African-American voters, a key Democratic constituency.

Biden, 76, declared his candidacy on April 25 and his first campaign event was a fundraiser in Philadelphia. He held his first rally in Pittsburgh the following week and toured Iowa last Wednesday before traveling to South Carolina.

Several Democratic candidates in a growing field have already made campaign stops in South Carolina, many of which took place months before Biden started the race.

New Jersey Democrat Senator Cory Booker spoke with constituents in Winnsboro at a city hall in February, while South Bend Mayor Peter Buttigieg stopped in Colombia in March.

Senator Elizabeth Warren has already been to the state twice already, with one stop in February and another earlier in April, when former Texas representative, Beto O. Rourke , also organized demonstrations. Californian Senator Kamala Harris also held two town hall meetings on university campuses in April.

Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders was also in South Carolina this weekend, holding duels against compatriot leader Biden.
