The JT Tuimoloau experiment is underway.

The Buckeyes’ extended recruiting for the five-star defensive end ended a week and a half ago when he picked them against Washington, Oregon, USC and Alabama. In doing so, he became the highest-rated defensive prospect to ever sign with Ohio State.

Tuimoloau is now officially enrolled in university and, as of Thursday afternoon, has been on the soccer team’s online roster. He would have landed in Columbus on Sunday.

He does not yet have a number, according to a spokesperson for the team.

Tuimoloau’s arrival in July means he will have less time to prepare for the 2021 football season than any other stock player on the list. Many came to Columbus as the first registrants in January, and more arrived in town in May and June for full summer training. Tuimoloau can start training this week with the pre-season camp starting in a few weeks.

By choosing to play for Ohio State, Tuimoloau made the program’s 2021 recruiting class the best in the modern recruiting era, according to the rankings.

Note: according to the official list, his name is pronounced too-ee-moe-low-ow.
