Last week, Depp revealed that he was “invited to quit” from the “Fantastic Beasts” film franchise in a typed letter shared on Instagram. The announcement came just days after Depp lost a libel case against a UK newspaper publisher, who wrote an article describing the actor as a ‘wife beater’.

The charge was linked to his relationship with his ex-wife, Amber Heard.

Depp has always denied accusations of domestic violence.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Depp will receive his full eight-figure salary for the third film “Fantastic Beasts” even though he will no longer appear in the film. The payday is due to the actor’s “pay or play” contract, which guarantees his compensation whether or not he appears in the film’s final cut.

“In a franchise like this, it’s the studio and the company that make the big decisions,” Law continued. “And you have to accept them, because we are just a member of the team.”

So far, Depp’s role of Gellert Grindelwald has not been recast, although some preliminary reports claim that Mads Mikkelsen is being considered for the job.

“Fantastic Beasts 3” is currently set to premiere in the summer of 2022. The film will focus even more on young Dumbledore, which means fans can expect to see a lot of Law.
