The litigation began in 2015 when Deschanel, Boreanaz, Josephson and Kathy Reichs sued Fox and accused the TV studio of cheating millions of dollars in residual payments. They alleged that the studio had charged a lower license fee than market rates to its related divisions, Fox Broadcasting and Hulu, which distributed the show.
