Judge Reveals YES Prep Firing at Suspect’s Alleged Real Target; These are the bail conditions set for Dexter Kelsey

HOUSTON –A judge alleged Sunday that Dexter Kelsey, the suspect in Friday’s shooting at YES Prep Southwest Secondary, had no intention of targeting school principal Eric Espinoza.

The judge said he intended to shoot a female staff member with whom he had a grudge since 2015.

Kelsey did not appear in court on Sunday morning, citing medical reasons, court documents show. A mental health order was issued by the court for Kelsey.

Although Kelsey was absent, the judge announced $ 5 million bail for aggravated assault on an official and an additional $ 250,000 for discharging a gun at a building.

The terms of obligation for Kelsey are as follows:

  • No contact with anyone with YES preparatory schools

  • No drugs and alcohol

  • No guns or weapons

  • The suspect must undergo a random urinalysis

  • Suspect must undergo GPS surveillance

  • Waiting at home 24 hours a day without any personal connection

  • Travel limited to Harris County and surrounding counties.
