Elliot Page, the Oscar nominated star of Netflix’s “Juno” and “The Umbrella Academy”, has announced that he is transgender.
Elliot, formerly known as Ellen Page, took to her social media followers, saying:
“Hi friends, I want to share with you that I’m trans, my pronouns are he / they and my name is Elliot. I am lucky to write this. Be here. To have arrived at this place in my life. I feel immense gratitude for the amazing people who have supported me throughout this trip. I can’t begin to express how remarkable it is to finally love who I am enough to pursue my authentic self. I have been endlessly inspired by so many members of the trans community. Thank you for your courage, generosity, and tireless work in making this world a more inclusive and compassionate place. I will offer all the support I can and I will continue to fight for a more loving and equitable society, ”he wrote.

Page uses both the he / him and them / them pronouns, and describes herself as transgender and non-binary, which means their gender identity is neither male nor female.

Page came out of his native Canada in 2005 with the revenge thriller “Hard Candy”. Two years later, he starred in Jason Reitman and Diablo Cody’s flagship indie “Juno,” for which Page received an Oscar nomination among other accolades.
Notable HI roles include Kitty Pryde in the “X-Men” series, “Inception” by Christopher Nolan, “Whip It!” and Sony’s reboot of “Flatliners”. He has produced and starred in films like “Tallulah” and “Freeheld”, and last year marked his directorial debut on the environmental racism faced by people of color and First Nations communities in Canada.
Prior to the transition, Page was one of Hollywood’s most visible gay actors. Tuesday’s announcement further enriches her legacy and adds her to a small but growing number of creators and trans stars in Hollywood. This includes artists (Laverne Cox, Trace Lysette, Brian Michael Smith) and creators (The Wachowski Sisters, “Transparent” creator Joey Soloway).
Last year, Variety announced the news of the groundbreaking global content production deal that Netflix has signed with Janet Mock, a famous trans storyteller and director of shows like “Pose” and “Hollywood”.
