Jurgen Klopp explained his daring team selection as Liverpool faced Manchester City.

The boss has decided to start his four stars up front as Roberto Firmino returns alongside Diogo Jota, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.

Discussing which side he chose, Klopp said: “I thought it made sense, that’s it.

“We had a few days to recover, a few days to train, a few days to prepare and that’s the queue we chose.

“I wanted quality on the pitch in different areas, stuff like that.

“I always said, if you want to get anything here, you have to be really brave.

“It’s an offensive formation, but if everyone’s doing the job, then it’s an even stronger formation defensively. Yeah, we’ll see.”

Joel Matip is also making a return to the Etihad stadium after a spell on the sidelines.

Klopp added to Sky Sports: “Joel is now over a week in training.

“He could have played Atalanta already but we didn’t want to take that [risk].

“But now Joel is back and it was clear he would start then.”
