Jury awards $ 6.3 million to stage 4 cancer Shannen Doherty in State Farm Woolsey Fire lawsuit

LOS ANGELES (CNS) – A federal jury in Los Angeles today awarded Shannen Doherty $ 6.3 million after finding State Farm failed to fully reimburse damages to the actor’s house in Malibu during the Woolsey fire in 2018.

The jury concluded that the insurance giant’s failure to pay police benefits for Doherty’s house was unreasonable and without good cause, ” according to the jury form filed in federal court in Los Angeles.

The verdict covers damage to Doherty’s home and property,
distress and attorney fees.

Doherty, who starred in “Beverly Hills, 90210,” “Charmed” and “Heathers” revealed in February 2020 that the breast cancer she was diagnosed with in 2015 had recurred and progressed to stage 4.

Her lawyers have said in court documents that instead of living out her final years peacefully in her home, Ms Doherty remains displaced and fights with her insurance company. ”

State Farm said in a statement the company sympathizes with Doherty, 50, and wished her the best, but was disappointed with the jury’s decision and disagreed with it.

“We will explore all available legal options, including appealing the verdict,” the insurance company said.

Doherty’s attorney, Devin McRae, applauded the verdict in a statement obtained by City News Service.

“We thank the jury members for their careful consideration of Shannen’s case,” McRae said.

“We are happy that they saw the case the way we do. This should send a message to State Farm and other institutions that they should not forget that they are dealing with human beings.”
