Documents released in the controversial Jussie Smollett case revealed that prosecutors had told the Chicago police that an agreement had been reached a month before the charges against the "Empire" actor were publicly withdrawn.

Media lawyers pushed the Cook County Courts to overturn the decision to seal Smollett's archives to see what was going on behind the scenes of the investigation. A judge approved the request to unseal the records this week, opening 460 pages of documents to the public.

"We applaud this order. So is transparency and trust in the system, and we believe the public has the right to know what the government has done here and why. "

According to the lawyers involved in the disclosure of the documents, Smollett's records are just a springboard to discover the truth behind Advocate General Kim Foxx who dropped the lawsuit. Foxx wrote an editorial in the Chicago Sun-Times in which she declared that she was pleased with an investigation on her desk. However, she objected to the investigative efforts of a retired judge of the Illinois Court of Appeals in third parties.

"The court record is open. This is a good first step, but there is still a lot to be done because it is not the court record that is so important. This is Ms. Foxx's file and the decision-making process regarding how this case was handled. " – Sheila O'Brien, retired judge

Anthony Guglielmi, a spokesman for the Chicago police, said in a statement that the detectives did not initially transmit the information when they assumed the agreement included Smollett's admission. The city of Chicago is suing Smollett for the money spent to investigate what ended up being a false report from the "Empire" star.
