CHICAGO (AP) – Attorneys for the "Empire" actor, Jussie Smollett, said the charges alleging that he had lied to the police about the attack had been abandoned.
Smollett's lawyers, Tina Glandian and Patricia Brown Holmes, said in a statement Tuesday morning that Smollett's case "has been erased". .
A spokeswoman for the Cook County attorneys did not immediately respond to messages seeking comment.
Police and prosecutors said that the black and homosexual actor had falsely declared to the authorities that he had been attacked on January 29 in downtown Chicago because he was unhappy with his compensation in the Fox show and the promotion of his career.
