Amazon is starting the hiring process from its head office in Arlington and expects the first employees to move to temporary offices in June.
That's what emerges from a corporate blog post today:
Last November, we announced that Arlington, Virginia, would be the seat of our second seat. We received a warm welcome from the community and the strong support of state and local governments allowed us to make significant progress in establishing our presence here. We are ahead of schedule and pace to create 400 new jobs this year and a total of 25,000 over the next decade or so.
Today marks an important step in the process as we rent premises and start hiring. We will be welcoming our new employees to our temporary offices on Crystal Drive in June as we work to open our first building this fall.
The position was written by Ardine Williams, Vice President of Workforce Development, HQ2 at Amazon. According to a profile from LinkedIn, Williams left Seattle for the Washington area where she took up her new role in Q2.
Up to now, five jobs and three job titles are listed on Amazon's "Arlington HQ" job page:
- Global Category Manager
- Senior Financial Analyst – Procurement
- Human resources specialist
"This position will be installed in our new headquarters in northern Virginia, where Amazon will invest $ 2.5 billion and occupy 4 million square feet of energy-efficient office space," says one of the descriptions. From post. "Our employees and the neighboring community will also benefit from the Commonwealth's associated investments, including infrastructure upgrades, public transit improvements and new access to Reagan National Airport."

Amazon has recently rented additional offices in Crystal City, while other temporarily rented premises are under construction. Eventually, the company plans to move to an office campus in Pentagon City that it will develop and own.
In the blog article, Williams says Amazon plans to invest in training and education programs to "increase the talent available in this region in order to make Virginia a better place. even more attractive destination for innovators, big and small ".
We have a unique opportunity to create programs that support the skills development needed to create a pipeline of jobs at Amazon, while increasing the talent pool in the DMV.
We recently announced that we would support the funding of AP computer and introductory courses in 27 schools in Virginia as part of our Amazon Future Engineer program – a program from childhood to career for inspire, educate and propel children and young adults from disadvantaged or under-represented communities to pursue careers in computer science. Similarly, we also fund literacy programs, robotics clubs, and STEM labs in more than 50 Commonwealth schools.
We have been living in Virginia since 2010 and have already invested more than $ 34 billion in the Commonwealth, including infrastructure and compensation for our employees. We will invest additional billions in the coming years. We hope that our continued investments will create more opportunities for the region's skilled workforce and underrepresented communities.
