NEW YORK TIMES – The New York Times released an article Wednesday that Colt Justify had failed a drug test several weeks before the Kentucky Derby.
The article is written by Joe Drape and quotes documents reviewed by the newspaper, claiming that the board of the California Horse Racing Board had taken more than a month to confirm the results of the drug test and that He had also decided not to lodge a public complaint.
The Drape article said that a handful of race officials and horse-related people were aware of the failure of the drug test. Justify gave a positive result to the banned substance, scopolamine, which veterinarians believe can improve performance.
The article indicated that a laboratory at the University of California, Davis, had sent a notice two and a half weeks before the Kentucky Derby to the effect that Justify had tested positive for the drug used to treat stomach problems in humans.
