Tiger Woods’ son Charlie has been pressuring his father for some time to compete in the PNC Championship, a tournament that allows great champions to compete as a team with a family member.
Charlie apparently also couldn’t wait to get a Justin Thomas track.
Woods and his 11-year-old son recently entered the tournament, also known as the Father / Son Challenge, which will be held December 19-20 at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Orlando, Florida.
Thomas won the 2017 PGA Championship to become eligible for the tournament which began in 1995. He plays with his father, Mike, a Kentucky club pro and Thomas’s coach.
“Tiger and I talked about it a lot; he mentioned a while ago that Charlie wanted to play and Charlie really wanted to play with us,” Thomas said Tuesday at the Mayakoba Golf Classic in Mexico, the final official PGA Tour event. of 2020. “I obviously knew him well, and he also knows my dad a little bit.
“For some reason Charlie always wants to beat me. No matter what it is. Although he has never beaten me in golf or a putting contest, he still talks about trash like his dad. It will be. fun. We’re going to have this, like an indoor tournament within a tournament, try to shut his little mouth, but it will be fun. “
Thomas was unsure if he and his father would be reunited with Woods and his son.
The course consists of 20 teams who will play a 36-hole scrum. Over the years, the format has changed to allow daughters and grandsons to compete with their father.
Others in the field include Lee Trevino, Gary Player, Greg Norman, and Nick Price. This will be Woods’ last appearance in 2020, as he is not expected to play again until late January.
Woods’ son has shown promise in a few video clips of his swing as he has competed in some junior events – sometimes with his caddy dad.
“I can’t tell you how excited I am to play with Charlie in our first official tournament together,” Woods said when his participation was announced. “It was great to see him progress as a junior golfer, and it will be amazing to play as a team together in the PNC Championship.”
