ATLANTA – Justin Thomas has learned the hard way that starting the week with a lead is not as easy as you might think.
As FedExCup points leader, he started the league with 10 under pars and two shots ahead of Patrick Cantlay, second on the list, and 10 shots ahead of Jason Kokrak, No. 30 in points.
After starting the week tied at 70, that lead was gone and by the time he closed with a double under 68, he had found five shots of champion Rory McIlroy.

"It was really strange and difficult to leave Thursday in front of everyone," Thomas said. "I do not know what everyone feels, but I had a lot of difficulty playing in the usual way. It's hard to imagine that everyone starts from scratch when you do not do it. It was so difficult.
Thomas finished tied with Brooks Koepka in third place and collected $ 3.5 million in FedExCup bonuses. McIlroy won $ 15 million.
