Juventus-Porto and Borussia Dortmund-Sevilla odds, UEFA Champions League expert pick

[ad_1]

The first two Champions League quarter-finals will be confirmed on Tuesday as Juventus hosts Porto and Sevilla travel to Borussia Dortmund for two matches separated by a one-goal margin. Federico Chiesa’s late goal halved Juventus’ first-leg deficit in Porto and possibly made them favorites to reach the last eight for the fifth time in seven years. Borussia Dortmund will be expected to join them after overcoming an early deficit to win 3-2 at Sevilla, with Erling Haaland further bolstering his reputation on the European stage with an exceptional brace.

But how does our panel of experts predict Tuesday’s games will play out? Read on for their predictions and remember you can capture all the action on Paramount +.

Juventus vs. Porto

Time: Tuesday, 3 p.m. ET (Paramount +)
Juventus -225; Null +340; Porto +650 (odds via William Hill Sportsbook)

Last Chances:

Juventus -1.5

Taking Rongen: Juve have won nine of their last 10 home games in all competitions (one draw), keeping clean sheets in six matches. With Alvaro Morata scoring a brace in their last win over Lazio and Cristiano Ronaldo rested, I expect Juve to advance. Picks: Juventus 2, Porto 0 (Juventus advance 3-2 in total)

The taking of Romano: Juventus are betting everything on the Champions League and cannot miss this opportunity. The team will have the return of Leonardo Bonucci, Juan Cuadrado and Alvaro Morata. Picks: Juventus 2, Porto 0 (Juventus advance 3-2 in total)

Taking Echegaray: Andrea Pirlo knows – as Serie A seem increasingly likely to go to Inter – that the Champions League is his only saving grace this season. Losing in the round of 16 would be disastrous, especially for Cristiano Ronaldo and what it means for his future. I think Porto will struggle to keep Juve focused and Ronaldo, who didn’t play a full game in his win over Lazio last weekend, will benefit from that. Federico Chiesa will also score in this one. Picks: Juventus 2, Porto 0 (Juventus advance 3-2 in total)

West’s take: At home, with the extra boost from Giorgio Chiellini in training and who only needs one goal? I go with CR7 and Juventus. I don’t think it will be pretty, but I think the home side gets the job done with a close win. Pick: Juventus 1, Porto 0 (Juventus advance 2-2 in the away tiebreaker)

Johnson’s Take: The away goal in Portugal will be crucial for the Italians as they will do the homework and advance to the quarter-finals. Advance of Juve. Pick: Juventus 1, Porto 0 (Juventus advance 2-2 in the away tiebreaker)

The take of Benge: It really won’t be easy at all for Juve, who signed Cristiano Ronaldo to take them across the finish line in the Champions League and instead fell back into the chasing pack. Federico Chiesa was the first player other than CR7 to score a knockout goal for the Bianconeri in three years and if Ronaldo doesn’t go up big I would be tempted to gravitate towards Porto. Still, he should have just about enough in the tank to raise an ordinary team to the last eight. Picks: Juventus 2, Porto 0 (total 3-2)

Gonzalez’s take: After laying an egg in the first leg, Juventus bounced off Cristiano Ronaldo, who scores twice to see The Old Lady pass. Picks: Juventus 2, Porto 0 (Juventus advance 3-2 in total)

The taking of Herrera: Porto delivered a surprise in the first leg by increasing by two goals, but Juventus managed to take the lead in the dying minutes. Expect Juventus to be motivated by defeat with the home advantage in tow. Picks: Juventus 2, Porto 0 (Juventus advance 3-2 in total)

Goodman’s Take: Despite a poor performance by everyone from manager Andrea Pirlo to star Cristiano Ronaldo in the first leg, Juventus remain comfortably tied. Even an average performance should be more than enough to see them through this time around against a Porto side from their vintage versions. Picks: Juventus 2, Porto 0 (Juventus advance 3-2 in total)

Borussia Dortmund v Sevilla

Time: Tuesday, 3 p.m. ET (Paramount +)
Borussia Dortmund +111; Null +270; Sevilla +225 (odds via William Hill Sportsbook)

Last Chances:

Borussia Dortmund -0.5

Taking Rongen: Dortmund are undefeated in their last seven UCL home games (two draws) – that streak will continue. Pick: Borussia Dortmund 2, Sevilla 1 (Borussia Dortmund advance 5-3 overall)

The taking of Romano: Erling Haaland dominates the Champions League, and he will make the difference again. Sevilla will put their heart into it but BVB is in good shape. Pick: Borussia Dortmund 2, Sevilla 1 (Borussia Dortmund advance 5-3 overall)

Taking Echegaray: It’s so hard to figure out and yes I’m going on a full branch here, and maybe I’m wrong in a lot of ways. But I just think Sevilla – who are in better health – will want to change some things in this game and take advantage of some key injuries. It depends on Erling Haaland and his physical form, as well as Raphael Guerreiro, who doubts for this game. No Jadon Sancho too? I feel that Seville will do everything possible. But I can already feel this one biting my ass. Pick: Borussia Dortmund 1, Sevilla 3 (Sevilla advance 5-4 overall)

West’s take: This one is incredibly difficult to call. Dortmund and Sevilla suffered demoralizing losses over the weekend and it is impossible to say which version of the teams will show up on Tuesday. I’ll hang my hat on Erling Haaland and the added advantage of three away goals that Dortmund had in the first draw. Pick: Borussia Dortmund 2, Sevilla 1 (Borussia Dortmund advance 5-3 overall)

Johnson’s Take: The Spaniards are losing form at the worst possible time with the Copa del Rey now underway and the defense far from solid. The Germans recently turned a corner and that will continue with a win to reach the quarterfinals. Dortmund passes. Pick: Borussia Dortmund 2, Sevilla 1 (Borussia Dortmund advance 5-3 overall)

The taking of Benge: Sevilla have faltered quite significantly since that first-leg loss to Dortmund, who appeared to secure their number with explosive counters led by Jadon Sancho and Erling Haaland. Having the latter (Sancho came out with a thigh problem) Marco Reus and so many other attacking talents in the mix mean you have to assume Dortmund are going to get goals. As for Sevilla, I’m not sure they’ve let go of their addiction to creating mediocre chances. Pick: Borussia Dortmund 2, Sevilla 1 (Borussia Dortmund advance 5-3 overall)

Gonzalez’s take: Dortmund get key players on time, pass Sevilla three more times and advance without much worry. Pick: Borussia Dortmund 3, Sevilla 1 (Borussia Dortmund advance 6-3 overall)

The taking of Herrera: An exciting first leg between the teams will set up an interesting second leg, but a fit Erling Haaland will make the difference in this one. Pick: Borussia Dortmund 3, Sevilla 1 (Borussia Dortmund advance 6-3 overall)

Goodman’s Take: Two teams not playing particularly well at the moment mean this game will be a balm for someone no matter what. Dortmund will play an open style no matter what, but Sevilla probably don’t have the explosiveness needed to capitalize on Dortmund’s defensive vulnerability. Pick: Borussia Dortmund 2, Sevilla 1 (Borussia Dortmund advance 5-3 overall)
