California Democrat Senator Kamala Harris released a statement Thursday night on the arrest of "Empire" actor Jussie Smollett. Smollett was charged with disorderly conduct for filing a false police report after allegedly orchestrating a false hate crime last month.

When anyone makes false statements to the police, not only does it detract from serious investigative resources, but it is more difficult for other chimera victims to come forward, "said his statement." "Last year, the FBI released statistics revealing a 17% increase in the number of hate crimes in the United States. Part of the tragedy of this situation lies in the fact that it distracts attention from this truth and has been seized by some who would like to dismiss and minimize all the real problems that we must tackle, "she continued. "We should not allow this. I will always condemn racism and homophobia. We must always face hatred directly and we must always seek justice. That's why I'm going to keep fighting.
Smollett filed a police report claiming that two Trump supporters had struck him in the middle of the night. He claimed that they had poured him a substance resembling bleach and he had tied a rope in the manner of a noose while shouting racist and homophobic insults.
The investigators concluded that the Smollett had orchestrated the whole situation and paid his attackers. Smollett was charged Wednesday night with filing a false police report.

Nobody should have to fear for his life because of his sexuality or the color of his skin. We must deal with this hatred, "tweeted Harris on January 29, the day after the alleged attack.
Harris ignored journalists earlier on Thursday when she was confronted by reporters after having lunch with Al Sharpton.
