Donald Harris, a professor of economics at Stanford University, sent an unsolicited statement to Jamaica Global Online, saying that he and his immediate Jamaican family "wanted to categorically disassociate themselves from this parody."

Harris, a Democratic White House candidate for 2020, made headlines last week in an interview with "The Breakfast Club," after acknowledging that she had already smoked marijuana.

Harris also said the charges that she tried to prevent the legalization of the drug would be false.

"It's not true," she says. "Half of my family is from Jamaica, are you kidding me?" She added, laughing.

Donald Harris was separated and then divorced from Kamala Harris' mother when she was young, according to Politico.

Kamala Harris and her sister were raised mainly by her mother.

According to an email from Politico, Donald Harris seeks to stay out of the political melee as his daughter fights for the White House.

"I decided to stay out of everything that is political by not engaging in any interviews with the media," he wrote in the e-mail.
