"Christine Blasey Ford's ambition was not to become a household name or to appear on this list," wrote the California Democrat. "She had a good life and a successful career – and risked everything to send a warning in a moment of grave consequence."

Blasey Ford, a professor of California psychology, testified publicly in September before the Senate Judiciary Committee, alleging that the current Supreme Court Brett Kavanaugh had attempted to sexually assault her while she was in high school. Kavanaugh denied the allegations of Blasey Ford. He was sworn in as a judge at the Supreme Court in early October.
As a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Harris toasted Kavanaugh during his confirmation process in the Senate and led a strike by Democratic Senators when the committee voted in favor of his appointment.

Harris, a presidential candidate in 2020, wrote in Time magazine that "Ford's courage against those who wanted to silence him, galvanized the Americans" and his "unfathomable sacrifice, out of a sense of civic duty, attracted the Attention to how we treat victims of sexual violence ".

Kavanaugh was also on Time's annual list. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell spoke of the confirmation process in his tribute to Kavanaugh, praising his dedication to the law, the public service and his family. "But when partisan ideas and special interests tried to dissuade the Senate from looking at these qualities, we saw other facets of Justice Kavanaugh's personality," McConnell wrote.
