At the appearance of Senator Kamala Harris in "Late Night with Stephen Colbert" on Wednesday, the 2020 presidential hopeful said that the Senate Intelligence Committee would not stop its investigation of President Trump despite what Harris called threats to "take American infrastructure hostage".

The California Democrat and other members of the intelligence committee are investigating the Russian interference in the elections and Trump's alleged ties to Russia for two years. The panel is expected to call several witnesses at the end of the investigation over the next few months.

Harris promised that the committee would not stop investigating Trump. She said the president's "personal interests" only hurt the American people.

When Colbert asked Harris if she would accept Trump's requests, she answered categorically "No".

"So he's going to hold America's infrastructure hostage, right? – on the question of the investigation, "she continued.

Acting as the devil's advocate, Colbert suggested that the intelligence committee could "stop" the investigation in order to work with the White House on the country's infrastructure, but Harris dismissed this idea .

"It's a false choice," Harris said. "We can not abandon our democracy to appease someone who is totally focused on his interests only."

Harris argued that Trump's failure to work with Dems on infrastructure shows that he does not represent most Americans.

"Nearly half of American families have to pay $ 400 to meet unforeseen expenses," she said.
