CONCORD, NH – Senator Kamala Harris, visiting New Hampshire for the first time in her life, has distanced herself from the latest candidate to win the state's Democratic presidential primary on Monday, saying she Was "not democratic socialist" like Senator Bernie Sanders.
Ms. Harris made the remark during conversations with constituents in Concord, NH, as she began her debut as a presidential candidate in the state, which is organizing the country's first primary in 2020, shortly after caucuses in Iowa. The California senator planned to hold a town hall event in Portsmouth later Monday afternoon.

The exchange involving Sanders, the independent Vermont senator who won the 2016 primary with 60% of the vote, came after a question about whether Ms Harris should be sidelined as Mr. Sanders to succeed in New Hampshire primary next year.
"The people of New Hampshire will tell me what is needed to compete in New Hampshire, but I will tell you that I am not a democratic socialist," she said. Mr. Sanders describes himself as a democratic socialist, a label that some well-known Democrats have also adopted, including Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
"I think what voters want is to know that they want to know that whoever will lead will count that, nowadays, in America, not everybody has the money. equality of opportunity and does not have access to the path of success, "she added.
