Vice President Kamala Harris has another big trip coming up – but it won’t be a return visit to the US-Mexico border.
Instead, Harris will travel next month across the Pacific, to Vietnam and Singapore, amid U.S. tensions with China.
Its aim is to “strengthen relations and expand economic support,” Chief spokesperson Symone Sanders said in a statement.
Harris will be the first sitting vice president to visit Vietnam.
The trip is also an effort to rally support against China’s growing economic ancestry, according to Reuters.

The trip comes against the national backdrop of the continuing crisis on the southern border of the United States. In March, President Biden tasked Harris with studying the root causes of the crisis.
Over the following weeks, Republicans and even some Democrats urged Harris to visit border towns in the United States, in order to get a first-hand impression of how the migrant crisis was affecting those communities, but Harris resisted. . Then, in late June, 94 days after her appointment to Biden, Harris flew to El Paso, Texas for a brief visit – before flying to Los Angeles, where she owns a home.
Harris even returned to her Brentwood mansion the following weekend for what was her fifth trip to Los Angeles since taking office.

The Asian tour will be Harris’ second overseas trip after visiting Guatemala and Mexico earlier this year, where she focused on why Central American migrants came to the US border. .
She has also traveled to the United States, promoting coronavirus vaccines and the Biden administration’s US bailout to jumpstart the economy.
During his trip to Asia, Harris will discuss regional security, the coronavirus pandemic, climate change and “our joint efforts to promote a rules-based international order,” said Sanders.
Vietnam has become an ally against China’s claims in the South China Sea, according to Reuters.
