A couple from Kansas is transforming the concept of boxcars that pioneers used to travel west to a luxury experience for campers who wish to enjoy nature without sacrificing comfort. electricity and spacious beds.
Dennis and Donna Steinman built their first 8 x 3 meter (26 x 10 ') wagon to meet the needs of glamorous high-end glamor camping enthusiasts, reported the Lawrence Journal-World.
The Douglas County couple's canvas-covered cars will accommodate a king-size or queen-size bed, a bunk bed and a glass roll-table. Their PlainsCraft Conestoga cars are also equipped with electrical outlets and the couple is interested in knowing how to heat and cool the interiors.
"The idea is to go camping without giving up the amenities," said Dennis Steinman.
He plans to park wagons in wineries, ranches, state and national parks, hunting lodges and resorts.
"They are like sleeping in a motel room," added Donna Steinman.
The couple shares a love for the history of the pioneers. Dennis Steinman said he had good memories of riding in a small boxcar that his father had built in his youth.
"Today, glamping is a real trend, so I started my research and these wagons would fit in perfectly," he said.
The first Steinmans car is parked in their rural house between Lawrence and Lecompton. They received orders for two carriages intended for the accommodation of customers at an Oklahoma ranch.
Dennis Steinman hopes to build 20 cars during the first year of his company's business.
"We're just starting," he says.
