Kansas Gas has ordered its customers to realize tax savings

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) — Kansas Gas Service customers will receive good news in an upcoming bill.

While the icy winter weighs heavily on gas bills across the country, the Kansas Corporation Commission has ordered the utility provider to provide its customers with savings of nearly $ 18 million. That means residential customers will receive a one-time credit of $ 22.78, the agency said.

KCC explained that the 2017 tax cuts allowed Kansas Gas Service to save millions of dollars by reducing the corporate tax rate from 35% to 21%. Since the adoption of the tax reduction, the company was required to place all its savings in a separate account until the agency could make its decision.

Kansas Gas had asked to keep the money to offset its service costs. However, KCC's auditors determined that the company had not proven that the return of this money "would endanger the health and viability of KGS".
