Kanu abandons Final 5 after game, Buckeyes make the cut

“The question is why not,” Kanu began. “I knew they were going to Ohio State, so why not go. We went to Notre Dame and then to Ohio State. The schools I have scheduled official visits to are all high on my list.

Kanu has official visits scheduled to Oklahoma on October 16, Notre Dame on October 23, Ohio State on October 30, and Georgia on November 6. So it was no surprise that Kanu dropped out of his last five games tonight and Ohio State, Oklahoma, Notre Dame and Georgia were on his roster. LSU is the other school to complete Kanu’s last five.

Kanu made his announcement after his match tonight against San Juan Capistrano (Calif.) JSerra Catholic, a game Santa Margarita Catholic won 38-13 to move to 5-1 this season. He did it with his mother at hand. Kanu is from Germany and his mother flew to California on Thursday night so she could see her son play and be present as he announced the five remaining schools in his recruiting.

Kanu also spoke to the Ohio State defensive line coach. Larry johnson Thursday night.

“Yes, he called (Thursday) evening,” Kanu said. “It goes well.”

In addition to visiting Ohio State in late July, Kanu also trained in Ohio State in June and stayed there an extra day. He then scheduled his first official visit, and it was to Ohio State on the weekend, hosting the Buckeyes, Penn State, which will be an absolutely huge recruiting weekend for the Buckeyes. Hero scheduled the visit while talking to Johnson.

Kanu spoke with Bucknuts about his July 29 visit to Ohio state.

“It was fun,” he said. “We played basketball. The food was good. It was more like a team bond with the other recruits. I spoke to (2023 Ohio State Offensive Line target) Luc Montgomery. We were excited after the weight training session. We made noise to everyone. There was a lot of energy. It was just fun.

“The photoshoot was the most fun. It wasn’t just a regular photoshoot. We did it after practice and we were all excited. It was really fun.”

The 6-foot-5, 293-pound Kanu is a 4-star prospect in the 247Sports Composite. He is the nation’s No. 84 prospect, the No. 13 defensive tackle and the No. 6 prospect in California.
