Kanye West brings Sunday service to his hometown of Chicago

The rapper organized his hip-hop and gospel pop-up event on the North Island of Chicago, in front of an enthusiastic audience. Tickets for the free event were released Saturday and were recovered in minutes, according to CNN affiliate, WGN.

The service, under a damp sky, lasted over an hour and featured exuberant versions of West's "Jesus Walks", "Drop It Like It's Hot" and a handful of gospel songs.

His fellow countryman Chance the Rapper, from Chicago, also made an appearance by singing his iconic verse on "Ultralight Beam". For those who missed it, you can watch a retransmission of the Chicago event on the Sunday Service website.

For strangers, West participated in the Sunday service on the road across the country. Last month, he organized the event in Dayton, Ohio, in tribute to the victims of a shooting incident on August 4 in the city. Earlier this year, he organized a special edition on Easter Sunday at Coachella.

Chicago's Sunday Service arrives a few weeks before West's awaited new album.
