Kanye West is looking to shorten his name.

Born Kanye Omari West, the 44-year-old rap icon filed documents in Los Angeles Superior Court on Tuesday, formally asking to change his name to Ye – a nickname he’s used for years.

No middle name or last name was included in his proposed nickname.

The documents, dated Aug. 11 but only entered the court system on Tuesday, cite “personal reasons” for the change. A representative for West did not immediately return Fox News’ request for comment.

A judge must approve the change before it becomes official.

Kanye’s desire to change his name was first acknowledged in a 2018 tweet from rapper “Power”, saying “Being officially known as Kanye West. I’m YE”.

Likewise, “Ye” is the title of her 2018 album.

He has said in interviews that besides being a shortening of his first name which he likes, it is a word used throughout the Bible.

West is in the process of divorcing Kim Kardashian West, who didn’t ask for her last name to be just Kardashian again when she asked to separate from him in February. The couple’s four children also bear his last name.
