Kanye West reportedly called Mike Dean over mixing error at ‘Donda’ listening event

By hosting this week’s listening event for the highly anticipated Donda album, Kanye West managed to find time to make a quick phone call.

The multiple hyphen was seen screaming into the device as the project unfolded in front of hundreds of fans at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. The image sparked a series of questions among fans; chief among them: Who were you talking to? And what could have been so important that Ye picked up the phone in the middle of the live broadcast?

Well, now we have the answers.

On Saturday, a Twitter user posted a screenshot of Kanye over the phone, along with a caption that read, “Make sure Mike Dean is locked in this room. We haven’t finished yet.

The post referred to Dean’s production work for the highly anticipated album, which Kanye has spent the past two weeks working on from Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Dean addressed the mail shortly after, confirming that he was on receipt of this call.

“In fact, he was calling me from [sic] a mixing error! Dean wrote. “MDR.”

It’s no secret that the fans have been waiting for him Donda for a cool minute. Some expected him to drop after his first night of listening in Atlanta last month, and was later told he would arrive on August 6, after the second. Donda listening event Thursday. Obviously, Kanye was still unhappy with the project, which could explain his latest delay.

While Ye and his team have yet to confirm an alternate release date, some have pointed out that Apple Music’s pre-order for Donda lists a release August 13 for some users and a date August 15 for others.
