Karrueche Tran has made a breakthrough for actors of Asian, American and Pacific Islander descent (AAPI) with her latest accolade. The Los Angeles native won the Emmy for Outstanding Performance by a Leading Actress in a Daytime Fiction Program at the 2021 Daytime Emmy Awards last night for her performance as Vivian Johnson-Garrett in Popstar! “The Bay” from television.
Her big win marks a milestone for the Emmys, as Tran (who is of African American and biracial Vietnamese descent) is the first leading actress of AAPI origin to win the trophy for Daytime. or Prime-time Emmys.

Tran has made steady strides in television drama over the past few years. The digital drama series centers on the tangled lives of the well-to-do residents of Bay City, a town plagued by an ominous curse that overshadows all who live there in a fog of murder, heartache, betrayal and revenge.
