Kassandra is alive in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, but where is she?

The protagonist of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey defies death, living to 2400 years and older and meaning they are alive in AC Valhalla.

A little like Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla gives players the choice of two genders. There is, however, one notable exception: both Assassin’s Creed OdysseyAlexios or Kassandra exist in the historical context. Kassandra is the Eagle Bearer cannon, while Alexios is the Deimos cannon. As such, Kassandra is the one who passes the staff of Hermes to Layla, living to 2,400 years and older to do so. SPOILERS IN ADVANCE.

With Assassin’s Creed Valhalla taking place towards the end of the ninth century and Kassandra having been born 400+ years BC, the latter would have been around the middle age of 1300. She would have been alive, however, so it’s easy to wonder how she fulfilled 2,400 years of life and, during that exact period, where she was.

AC Odyssey: The Age of Kassandra and the Staff of Hermes

As Kassandra notes about Ikaros when she met Layla Hassan in AC Odyssey, everyone Kassandra knew or loved had died long before her. This includes his brother Alexios, his mother, his foster father, his beloved eagle Ikaros and many more. Yet Kassandra lived in good health and with a mission thanks to the staff of Hermes. This particular piece of Eden is powerful in many ways, having played a major role in the recent storyline. He brings Kassandra to Layla, he brings Layla to Reader / Desmond, and he gets Assassin’s Creed Valhalla ‘s Basim in modern times.

While the results of the latter two remain to be seen, Kassandra’s ultimate end is clearly spelled out, but it’s often the journey, not the destination, that matters. As a result, the world around Kassandra has changed and her along with it, meaning she has experienced a huge piece of human history. It’s not really explored, but it does give it the opportunity to appear in other Assassin’s Creed Games. Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear that Kassandra exists in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla (but there is a bust of her in AC origins).

AC Valhalla: Waiting for the heir of memories

Kassandra and Layla

During this time, it’s clear that Kassandra is waiting for the heir, but it’s also clear that she hasn’t sat down with Aletheia in Atlantis for millennia. When she appears to Layla, she is wearing a suit that could indicate her activities so far. Now, that doesn’t mean Kassandra was a businesswoman, but it does mean she saw the world. It would have been interesting to see Kassandra appear somewhere in AC Valhalla, although it was like a background character. This may have been avoided due to the aforementioned choice of Kassandra / Alexios, but importing this information could have bypassed this. Just choosing the barrel might as well be.

There is no indication that Kassandra was ever involved with the Hidden Ones, but she could have been. She could have been present in England at that time, she could still have been in Greece, or she could have really been anywhere. At 1300 years old, it is hard to imagine that she remained in Greece. It’s possible she’s somewhere, as the transfiguring form is one of the staff’s abilities, but it’s all in the air now. This may be further explored with Assassin’s Creed Valhallathe next DLC.

After all, it seems likely that Kassandra is aware of the multitude of assassin / templar factions that have developed over the years, and it looks like the Wrath of the Druids DLC will bring another: the Chidlren of Danu. Fans probably shouldn’t have a lot of stock in this. Still, it would be interesting to see Kassandra return to fight alongside Eivor or the protagonist of the next one. Assassin’s Creed game, and the possibility of this has nowhere disappeared.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is now available for PC, PS5, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
