Kate Hudson explains why all her partners have been musicians

Oscar-nominated Kate Hudson and her two-year-old daughter Rani Rose wore T-shirts that matched the Palace T-shirt’s smiley face in a new Julia von Boehm series.

“My quarantine was not calm. I need 40s in my 40s, ” Goldie Hawn’s 41-year-old daughter joked in the March issue of InStyle, on newsstands Feb.12.

‘Everyone finds a silver lining in [lockdown] and a goal everywhere. I think this is a positive thing. What do you really need and what makes you happy?

Hairstylist Gregory Russell styled Kate’s linen locks, and makeup artist Doniella Davy made sure she was ready for her close-up for the magazine shoot.

Little Rani’s father is Lightwave Records founder Danny Fujikawa, who Hudson has been dating since 2016.

Podcaster Sibling Revelry has a nine-year-old son, Bingham, from his three-year engagement with Muse frontman Matt Bellamy, which ended in 2014.

Kate is also the mother of her 17-year-old son Ryder, from her six-year marriage to Black Crowes frontman Chris Robinson, which ended in 2007.

‘I would like to say [musicians are] attracted to me, Hudson noted.

“I’m drawn to musicians, period. From the outside, yes, I understand. “Oh, I love a rock star,” or whatever. But that’s not really what it is.

“The reason I connect so deeply with musicians is that we all connect with music in ways you don’t have to explain. You just feel it, and it’s something you love … Lifestyle is not something to love!

The Almost Famous alum’s allure and suppressed singing talent come from her former father Bill Hudson, a musician who abandoned her and her brother Oliver as children.

“He’s never been a father to me, so it was kind of like my way of rejecting this relationship,” Kate explained.

“I lost sight of my confidence in singing and making music in my late twenties… I never really managed to realize the part of me that is probably my # 1 passion.

That all changed when Hudson was cast as the new drug dealer Zu in Sia Furler’s debut film Music, which hits US theaters on February 12 and in UK theaters on February 15.

“ For me personally, creating it with Sia was healing in a lot of ways, ” the Los Angeles native recalls.

“It was almost like someone was giving me permission to say, ‘You deserved this opportunity to express yourself through this.’ I’ve been working on it and I feel more confident. Now I am excited about the singing and have no expectations of what I want it to sound like.

The 45-year-old Australian replaced Shia LaBeouf with Kate after watching a 2016 Instagram video of her 1944 chestnut song from Judy Garland Have Yourself a Merry Christmas.

“We’re going to get weird,” recalls Hudson who told him Sia.

“You’re going to shave your head, go for a walk in a sports bra, get blood on your face, and smash your head against a wall. As a creative person, I said to myself “Yes”.

The Golden Globe winner went on to defend Maddie Ziegler’s controversial casting as the autistic half-sister to her character, Music.

“ Maddie worked so hard on this part and was so complex and careful in how she described this autistic girl, ” Kate said.

‘We read [about autism], we talked to people, we watched everything under the sun that could possibly make you have that experience.

The music – based on a one-page article written by Furler in 2007 – currently holds a dismal 29% critics approval rating (out of seven reviews) on Rotten Tomatoes.

The musical drama also features Leslie Odom Jr., Juliette Lewis, Hector Elizondo, Tig Notaro and Mary Kay Place.
