Kate Hudson shines in cheerful first trailer for new Sia Music movie about newly sober young woman tasked with caring for her special needs sister
She is the unconventional and talented star behind such pop hits as Chandelier and Cheap Thrills.
And now musician Sia can add a female director to her impressive resume, with the upcoming release of her feature debut Music, next spring.
In the film’s first trailer released Thursday, star Kate Hudson is introduced as the film’s protagonist, a newly sober drug dealer named Zu who suddenly has to start caring for his special-needs little sister, whose name is is Music.

The music is played by dancer Maddie Ziegler, 18, who made her debut in Australian songbird’s now iconic music videos Sia for Chandelier, Elastic Heart and Big Girls Cry.
Maddie’s main character in the film is autistic, and the trailer begins to show the relationship between the two sisters.
A helpful neighbor, played by Leslie Odom Jr., notes that music “ sees the world in a completely different way than we do, ” as it stays somewhat removed from the world around her wearing headphones and using a machine to communicate emotions.

And as the group sets up a small inflatable swimming pool next to a building in the city, viewers see their little ‘pool party’ through Music’s eyes as the action turns into a musical number. incredibly colorful and choreographed with Hudson in the center.
The sets include a red environment with Kate wearing a yellow swim cap, surrounded by other dancers.
Soon, Leslie and Maddie join them as part of the fantasy interlude.

The infectiously cheerful teaser is set to equally exhilarating new music from Sia, which is set to release an album (also called Music) alongside the film.
The album will feature 10 original songs Sia wrote for the film, and one song, Hey Boy, already has a lyrical video now on YouTube.

The music has an impressive supporting cast including Juliette Lewis, Hector Elizondo, Tig Notaro, and Mary Kay Place.
The film is slated to hit theaters around the world in February next year.
The Music album is scheduled for release on February 12.
