“It was a dynamic power thing.”
Kate Mara is FX frontman on Hulu’s new drama A teacher, which premiered earlier this week. (The first three episodes are now on the streaming service – and I highly recommend them.)
In a recent interview with the TV Academy while promoting A teacher, Mara has spoken of her “horrible experience” directing the film adaptation of the 2015 comic The Fantastic Four.
“I’ve never talked about it before,” she admitted. “I married one of my co-stars, so I don’t regret making this movie at all. But do I wish I had reacted differently to certain things? Yes, definitely.
Mara also claimed that during her career she had two “horrific” experiences on set – both with male directors.
“Didn’t I get along with a director? Absolutely,” she explained. “And wasn’t that the best work experience? Sure. But there was never a moment where I felt, ‘This is happening because I’m a woman.’”
“Where with male directors, it only happened 100% with me; it was a dynamic thing. And on my two bad experiences, the films were 95% male and I was the only woman. of the movie. “
And Mara also touchingly shared what she hopes her stepdaughter will pull out of roles she has chosen throughout her career: “Eventually she will be able to watch the work I have done. And now more. that ever, I want it to make sense and for there to be a point to it. “
