Prince William’s children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis have adopted a new hobby, and it’s a longtime favorite of their great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II.

According to the Times, the trio have all honed their riding skills.

Additionally, the outlet reports that Elizabeth, 94, has a keen interest in their riding and plans to take rides with them in Windsor and Balmoral this summer.

George, 7, Charlotte, 5, and Louis, 2, have been reportedly interested in owning ponies for quite some time. George is said to have taken riding lessons with a Shetland pony owned by Zara Tindall, William’s cousin.

William, 38, and his wife Kate Middleton, 39, hope to give children a hands-on approach to learning how to ride and care for a horse, including grooming and cleaning.

The increased interest in horseback riding also comes after the family lost their pet, a cocker spaniel named Lupo, in November.

Queen Elizabeth has been known for her affinity for horses and her riding skills since 1930 when she received a Shetland pony from her grandfather on her fourth birthday.

Terry Pendry, the Queen’s chief groom and riding companion, described her as “a fountain of knowledge in all things equines – you could say a living encyclopedia,” according to the outlet.

Tindall, 39, and Elizabeth’s daughter Princess Anne both competed in horse riding events at the Olympics.

William also enjoys sports and was known to hunt foxes until he was banned in 2005, reports the Times. He still plays polo for charity events and is “delighted” that his children took up a hobby he enjoyed with his brother Prince Harry as a young man.
