Kate Walsh Returning In Season 18 As Addison – Deadline

UPDATE with Walsh’s Instagram video: Kate Walsh will be back on ABC Grey’s Anatomy, reprising his role as Addison Forbes Montgomery in the upcoming 18th season, we have learned. She is expected to appear in several episodes.

Walsh’s Addison is a world-class gynecologic and neonatal surgeon. She was once married to Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) and has a busy history with Meredith Gray (Ellen Pompeo). A specific storyline for his arc in Season 18 has not been revealed.

Walsh first appeared on Grey’s in the Season 1 finale as Derek Shepherd’s ex-wife in one of the series’ most famous and breathtaking scenes. Originally defined as a recurring character, Walsh’s role has been expanded to that of a series regular. During season 3, Grey’s designer Shonda Rhimes has created a spin-off built around the character of Walsh, Private practice, which saw Addison move to Los Angeles to start a new chapter. The episode “If / Then”, which aired in February 2012, also starred Kate Burton, who is also making a comeback in Grey’s in the coming season for several episodes.

They follow the surprise returns last season of the former Grey’s stars Patrick Dempsey, TR Knight, Chyler Leigh and Eric Dane. Walsh’s return mirrors that of another popular lead actor, Kim Raver, who also returned to medical drama as a recurring after being absent for several seasons.
