RED BATON, LA – Kathleen Babineaux Blanco, who led Hurricane Katrina in Louisiana as the first elected governor of her country, passed away.
Governor John Bel Edwards' office confirmed Blanco's death on Sunday. She was 76 years old.

Blanco had successfully fought a rare eye cancer in 2011, but this one then came back and spread to his liver.
Her death comes more than a year after the Democrat who held various positions in state government offices announced that she was fighting for her own life, a difficult battle to win. Blanco was governor from 2004 to 2008. Katrina ended her plans to run for reelection. She was described as unprepared, overworked and undecided, although the opinion of her performance has moderated since the storm of 2005.
