Kathy Griffin speaks in first video update since lung surgery, receives outpouring of love: “Pray for you”

Kathy Griffin is on the mend after having part of her left lung removed.

Speaking on camera for the first time since the surgery, the 60-year-old comedian said she intended to offer a behind-the-scenes look at her recovery from the procedure in her latest Instagram post on Saturday.

“My voice is really hoarse and I don’t want to scare people off,” she joked in the clip, noting that she hasn’t lost one of her best assets.

“I laugh, it’s just even that notion [is funny]Griffin added. “For some reason I’m laughing at everything now. And if it’s horrible, I laugh a lot more! “

Griffin received a wave of support from his famous friends in the comments.

“You got that kath !!! ❤️❤️❤️”, wrote comedian Rosie O’Donnell, while Ross Mathews replied, “Love to see you smile !!!”

“We pray for you, I love you !!!!!! ❤️🙏”, shared Kris Jenner, while Rosanna Arquette added: “I love you so much. Proud of you my friend.”

Griffin announced in a social media statement on Monday that she was due to have surgery to have part of her left lung removed due to cancer. The actress said she “had never smoked” before her diagnosis.

“The doctors are very optimistic because it is the first stage and contained in my left lung,” she noted in the statement. “I hope there will be no chemotherapy or radiation therapy after this and that I should have normal respiratory function. I should be up and running as usual in a month or less.”

Two days after the procedure, Griffin frankly informed his fans of his status and the start of his recovery.

“To be honest, this cancer surgery was a little more than I expected. Tonight will be my first night without narcotic pain relievers. Hello Tylenol, my new best friend!” she wrote on Instagram on Wednesday. “The last time I was in the hospital was in June 2020 when I tried to kill myself and overdosed on prescription drugs.”

“With over a year of abstinence and drug free, I now know that I can do this and anything I want without these devil pills,” she added. “You know what? I fear drugs and addiction more than I fear cancer. So I think I’m going to be fine.”

“Home from the hospital and greeted by my PAWfessional certified medical recovery pack,” Griffin joked in the post, which featured a video of his four dogs enthusiastically celebrating his return on Friday.

In Monday’s original update, she assured her followers that she will be “very well”. She also encouraged them to keep up to date with their medicals and get vaccinated against COVID-19, which she said could have made her diagnosis “even more serious.”

“It’s been 4 years in hell, trying to get back to work, making you laugh and entertained, but it’s going to be okay,” Griffin wrote. “Of course I am fully vaccinated against Covid. The consequences of not being vaccinated would have been even more serious. Please keep up to date with your medical visits. It will save your life. XXOO, KG”
