Kathy Griffin provided an update on her condition following her operation to remove half of her lung, saying her recovery has been “greater” than she might have expected.

The actress took to Instagram to speak to her followers and explain how her former addiction to prescription pills was affecting her recovery.

“To be honest, this cancer surgery was a bit more than I expected. Tonight will be my first night without narcotic pain relievers. Hello Tylenol, my new best friend! she wrote on Instagram. “The last time I was in the hospital was in June 2020 when I tried to kill myself and overdosed on prescription drugs.”

Seemingly stronger than ever, the former “Fashion Police” co-host said she knew she could overcome her struggles without the help of painkillers.

“With over a year of abstinence and drug free, I now know that I can do this and anything I want without these devil’s pills,” she continued. ” You know what ? I’m more afraid of drugs and addiction than cancer. So, I think it’s going to be okay.

Griffin, 60, revealed earlier this week that she was diagnosed with lung cancer weeks ago, when she had “never” smoked, and had to undergo surgery .

Griffin hoped she wouldn’t need chemotherapy or radiation therapy after the surgery and said she “should have normal function with my breathing.”

“I should be up and running as usual in a month or less,” she added.

The “My Life on the D-List” star also revealed her secret pill addiction, which she developed following her controversial photoshoot with Tyler Shields which showed her with a severed Donald Trump head.

“I was like, ‘Well, I don’t even drink… It’s serious I take a few pills every now and then, who doesn’t?'” She explained, adding: ” Believe me… I was laughing to stay alive And what I found is that I feel like if I can’t make other people laugh, then I have no purpose in living. I have no reason to live.
