Former “Today” host Katie Couric tore her rival Diane Sawyer apart in her revealing new book, admitting she “loved” getting under her skin as the two fought to be the best news star morning televisions.
According to the New York Post, which obtained a copy of the “Going There” memoir ahead of its Oct. 26 release date, Couric described how the competition between the two was getting out of hand and that she had at one point said the former “Good Morning America” presenter, “This Woman Must Be Arrested.”
The book describes how Couric and Sawyer fought for exclusive interviews. In one case, Couric beat up Sawyer for an interview with two teenagers who had been kidnapped because her team pointed out that she was a widowed mother of two daughters, while Sawyer was a stepmother.
Couric also described how Sawyer’s infamous interview with late famous singer Whitney Houston was almost an exploitation, according to The Post, and that she used Houston’s personal issues to get some good sound bites.

“I wonder who she had to blow up to get that,” Couric asked of a separate interview Sawyer was able to get with a woman who gave birth to twins at the age of 57.
“I’m pretty sure I’m speaking for Diane when I say neither of us ever resorted to a real fellatio to get an interview, but we both got into the metaphorical genre – Flattering caretakers, family members and anyone who stood in the way of a big get, “Couric wrote, according to The Post.

Couric received criticism ahead of the publication of her memoir, with former colleague Ashleigh Banfield strongly rebuffing her claims that she and her father were seeking to remove her as the best presenter on the “Today” show.

Couric also admitted that she expressed her sympathy to her former colleague Matt Lauer, who was fired by NBC following a sexual harassment scandal in 2017, sending her supporting texts describing how she loved and cared for him.
